Celebrity couple Jennylyn Mercado and Patrick Garcia are expecting child. The news, which was first leaked by staff of a certain showbiz talk show, was recently confirmed by the managers of the couple. The 20-year-old actress is six weeks and three days pregnant.
Patrick and Jennylyn had earlier seen a judge at the Makati City Hall to consult about a possible civil wedding because Patrick claims that he does not want the baby to be born out of wedlock. After their meeting with the judge, they decided to defer their wedding date for a later time.
Patrick’s sister, actress and TV host Cheska Garcia, is also slated to wed basketball player Doug Kramer later this year. If Patrick and Jennylyn push through with their wedding, “sukob”, a local superstition that predicts the occurrence of tragedy and disaster if a marriage takes place in the same year as a death or another marriage in the immediate family, will be committed.
Regardless of the postponement of their marriage, Patrick has expressed a desire to face his responsibilities as father of Jennylyn’s child.
Jennylyn, who stars in the GMA 7 soap “La Vendetta”, was given a break by the GMA Artist Center because of her impending motherhood. Patrick and Jennylyn’s team-up debut in the upcoming GMA 7 show “Maging Akin Ka Lamang” will be shelved for the meantime. Actress Nadine Samonte, Jennylyn’s contemporary from the GMA 7 talent search program “Starstruck”, will be taking over Jennylyn’s role instead.
Patrick, on the other hand, will continue starring in another anticipated GMA soap, "Babangon Ako't Dudurugin Kita," which also stars Yasmien Kurdi and JC de Vera.
